Sydney Sixers Vs Lions Final Live Cricket Score CLT20 2012

Invincible so far in the competition, Sydney Sixers are firm favourites for the title but South Africa’s enterprising Highveld Lions would look to upset the Australian powerhouse’s applecart when the two sides clash in the Champions League Twenty20 final at Johannesburg on Sunday.

Sydney won each of their five matches — including four group stage games — to be considered by far the best team to take the field in the competition.

Despite losing the services of their match-winner, prolific all-rounder Shane Watson, Sydney were strong enough for the Mumbai Indians in their final Group fixture and their semi-final clash against the Titans even though it was a close shave on Friday night.

The unavailability of Watson is certainly a big blow for Sydney Sixers, given that a winner’s cheque of USD 2,500,000 rides on this match.

Watson, incidentally, was a key figure when Sydney beat the Lions in a low-scorer during the group stage earlier in the tournament.

However, the Australian outfit will not be too concerned, given they have several players who have been in good touch.

Skipper Brad Haddin has been consistently among the runs.

Michael Lumb too has been in outstanding form, having scored in every outing.

In Moises Henriques and Steve Smith, the Sixers have two players in their middle order who are contributing regularly.

But a few chinks in the armour were left exposed by the last-ball on Friday night’s win over Titans during which Smith and Haddin failed to add anything significant.

Sydney’s bowling has been impressive with Mitchell Starc being the leading wicket-taker. In Pat Cummins, the Sixers have another strike bowler, while the likes of Moises Henriques and Josh Hazlewood have been very effective in the middle overs.

However, the attack did leak crucial runs in the death overs of the clash against Titans.

“Our running between the wickets could probably improve.

I think our first 16 over were brilliant but our death bowling let us down (but) we have to give credit to their batsmen, (David) Wiese and (Henry) Davids were whacking the ball so, (we could) probably (work on) the death bowling and not losing wickets consistently,” feels Cummins.

The Lions, on the other hand, would be happy to start as underdogs as it would ease the pressure on them.

Opening batsman, Gulam Bodi, is the team’s top run-getter in the competition. The Lions will be banking on him to get them off to a good start.

Neil McKenzie too has been among the runs but he would need to convert his starts into match-winning performances.

Quinton de Kock, who was tipped as one of the players to watch in the days leading up to the tournament, would also aim to come good on Sunday.

On the bowling front, the Lions have quite an ace up their sleeve in the form of left-arm spinner Aaron Phangiso.

He is the Lions’ leading wicket-taker and has bowled beautifully. Phangiso, in fact, tops the list of Lions’ wicket-takers accounting for 30 scalps in 33 T20 games for his team.

The Lions will also bank on the home support they are likely to enjoy to outwit Sydney, a team which has looked unstoppable all through the event.

Teams:

Sydney Sixers (Probable): Michael Lumb, Nic Maddinson, Brad Haddin (c&wk), Moises Henriques, Steven Smith, Ben Rohrer, Steve O’Keefe, Nathan McCullum, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood

Highveld Lions (Probable): Gulam Bodi, Alviro Petersen(c), Quinton de Kock, Neil McKenzie, Jean Symes, Thami Tsolekile (wk), Chris Morris, Sohail Tanvir, Dwaine Pretorius, Dirk Nannes, Aaron Phangiso.

Sydney Sixers Vs Titans CLT20 2nd Semi-Final Live Cricket Score Ball by Ball

It’s the second semi-final of the Karbonn CLT20 2012. Sydney Sixers, the most impressive side in the tournament, clash with the Titans.

The Sydney Sixers have been invincible in the competition; they’ve won each of their four matches in the Group stage and have been by far the best team to take the field. Despite losing the services of their match-winner – Shane Watson – the Sixers were strong enough for the Mumbai Indians in their final Group fixture.

The Titans meanwhile started their Group campaign with a win over the Perth Scorchers and followed it up with a win over the Auckland Aces. However, since then, they’ve lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders, while their match against the Delhi Daredevils was washed out.

The Protagonists

The unavailability of Shane Watson is certainly a big blow for the Sydney Sixers, given how much rides on this match. However, the Australian outfit will not be too concerned, given they have several players who have been in good touch. Before his duck against the Mumbai Indians, Sixers’ skipper Brad Haddin was amongst the runs in every other game. Michael Lumb too has been in outstanding form, having scored runs in every outing. In Moises Henriques and Steve Smith, the Sixers have two players in their middle order who are among the runs.

The Titans will be buoyed by the possibility of AB de Villiers becoming available for this all-important fixture. de Villiers, the South Africa limited overs captain, missed the Group matches owing to injury but has remained with the squad in hopes of becoming available for the knockout matches. His addition will be a big boost to the team. Jacques Rudolph (the leading run-getter in the tournament) and Henry Davids have seen the Titans off to a good start in each of their games in the Group stage and the team will hope for that to continue.

The bowling attacks of both teams are in good shape. The Sixers’ Mitchell Starc has bowled impressively right through the tournament and not surprisingly, he is the leading wicket-taker. In Pat Cummins, the Sixers have another strike bowler, while the likes of Moises Henriques and Josh Hazlewood have been very effective in the middle overs. The Titans too have a very good pace attack; CJ de Villiers, Alfonso Thomas and Ethy Mbhalati have all been among the wickets.

Previous Meetings

Both teams will be meeting in a Twenty20 match for the first time.

Trivia

The SuperSport Park in Centurion is the home ground of the Titans.

The SuperSport Park is predominantly a chase-friendly ground; in the last 14 matches at the venue, which have had a result, 11 have been won by the team chasing.

What next?

The result of this match will determine which way the teams go from here. The winners will progress to take on the Lions in the Final on October 28 and fight it out for the Karbonn CLT20 2012 title and the winner’s purse of USD 2,500,000, while the losers will pack their kits and head home.

Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan in the first semifinal by 16 runs, while West Indies thrashed Australia by 74 runs in the second semifinal.

Pakistan V Sri Lanka 1st Semi-Final T20 WC 2012 Live Cricket score

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan is the only team which qualified for all the four T20 World Cup finals.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 1st T20 Semi Final Live Cricket Score Today

Their confidence on a high after the big win over Australia, a supremely talented Pakistan will come out all guns blazing against hosts Sri Lanka in the first semi-final of the ICC World Twenty20 today.Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 1st T20 Semi Final Live Cricket Score Today

It will be a battle of attrition between the two sides who had met in the final of the 2009 edition of the tournament in England where Pakistan emerged victorious.

The scene is entirely different this time around as Mohammed Hafeez and his boys will be facing a formidable Sri Lankan outfit in their own backyard.

What will be the most interesting thing to see is battle between the top quality spin departments of both sides.

The most intriguing of the battles will be between two mystery spinners - Ajantha Mendis and Saeed Ajmal.

While Mendis has roared back to form during this edition of World T20 having taken nine wickets in five games which also include an astonishing six for eight against Zimbabwe, Ajmal has been a consistent performer for Pakistan in the past few years.

However, Pakistan, which has the likes of Hafeez, Imran Nazir, Nasir Jamshed and the Akmal brothers, are better players of spin bowling. And it will be interesting to watch as to what tricks can Mendis pull out of his bag on a slow R Premadasa track that has been assisting spinners.

Pakistan, on the otherhand, will be expecting the trio of Ajmal, Hafeez and young left-arm spinner Raza Hassan to ask difficult questions to Sri Lankan top order that has three world class batsmen in Tillekaratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara.

Dilshan, Jayawardena and Sangakkara all have been among runs and know the Premadasa track like the back of their hand.

The only advantage that Pakistan will have over Sri Lanka is the number of matches that they have played at this venue.

Having played three matches and won two, Hafeez and his men have an idea of what to expect from the Premadasa surface.

The Lankans, on the other hand, have played all their matches at Hambantota and Pallekele, where the seamers got more help due to the conditions.

On the slow Premadasa track, one would expect Lasith Malinga to bowl blockhole deliveries more often as length balls are likely to get punished.

The only concern for Pakistan will be Shahid Afridi's form. The all-rounder has batted quite irresponsibly in the tournament so far. Even Hafeez's ploy of sending him up the order hasn't worked as he has thrown away his wicket.

Afridi's bowling also hasn't been upto the mark. Although he has got a few wickets, his bowling has been pretty inconsistent and the batsmen have went after him using the pace of his deliveries.

As for the Lankans, the only weak link has been all-rounder Thisara Perera and vice-captain Angelo Mathews.

Mathews has bowled 12 overs in the tournament so far and has claimed only one wicket giving away 81 runs. In batting too, he hasn't got much chance to show his prowess as Sangakkara, Jayawardena and Dilshan have done bulk of the job.

But come tomorrow, the Sri Lanka will expect to Mathews to fire as there is a chance that law of averages can catch up with the top three of the Lankan line-up.

In all, there is little to choose between the two teams as they lock horns for a place in Sunday's final.

Sri Lanka: Mahela Jayawardena (captain), Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Akila Dananjaya, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Shaminda Eranga, Rangana Herath, Nuwan Kulasekara, Lasith Malinga, Ajantha Mendis, Jeevan Mendis, Dilshan Munaweera, Thisara Perera, Kumar Sangakkara, Lahiru Thirimanne.

Pakistan: Mohammad Hafeez (captain), Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq, Imran Nazir, Kamran Akmal, Mohammad Sami, Nasir Jamshed, Raza Hasan, Saeed Ajmal, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Sohail Tanvir, Umar Akmal, Umar Gul, Yasir Arafat.

Pakistan vs Australia T20 World Cup 2012 Live Cricket Score Today

COLOMBO: After being defeated by India in their second Super Eights match, team Pakistan is in a critical do or die situation as they will face Australia in their last Super Eight match in World Twenty 20 in Colombo while India will take on South Africa Tuesday.

The Pakistan vs Autralia match will begin at 3:00 pm and India vs South Africa at 7:00 pm according to Pakistan Standard Time.

Pakistan will have to device a comprehensive strategy to come up with an impeccable performance against the unbeaten Australia, which is almost assured a semi-final berth after the commanding eight-wicket victory over South Africa in their last game on Sunday.

Pakistan will face an exit from the tournament in case of losing match against Australia, therefore, Pakistan is in a do or die situation to gain a safe place in the semis.

The fight for the second semi-final slot from Group 2 is indeed intriguing as both India and Pakistan have a fair chance of making their place in the semis, with the Aussies enjoying a healthy run-rate of +1.712.

In case Pakistan (-0.426), who are a shade ahead of India (-0.452) in terms of net run-rate happen to win against Australia, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his men will then have to win comprehensively against the South Africans in order to make it to the last four.

South Africa has lost both their matches in contrasting manner - a close defeat to Pakistan and a comprehensive one against Australia.

Even if they win on Tuesday, it is an unlikely proposition for AB de Villiers's side to seal a semi-final berth as their inferior run-rate (-0.605) at this stage of the tournament makes their case weak.
