South Africa have named a much changed squad to the one we are used to seeing. In total there are four debutants in their squad and all four could well feature in this match as Henry Davids, Quentin de Kock, Aaron Phangiso and Chris Morris all look set to be given their first caps after impressing in the recent Champions League. Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel are also in the squad led by Faf du Plessis in this series.
Brendon McCullum leads his side for the first time in this match too and it is a very young side he will be leading. It will be boosted by the arrival of Martin Guptill but with the likes of Kane Williamson, Jesse Ryder, Ross Taylor, Jacob Oram and Daniel Vettori all absent it will be a big ask for McCullum to get anything out of this side in terms of winning the game.
South Africa should come through this match but I’m no 2/5 backer in this format of the game. Instead I quite like the look of some sixes in this match. The word coming out of Durban is that the wicket looks good for batting and isn’t going to be a green top which we are used to seeing in that part of the world. There’s more than enough batsmen in both sides capable of clearing the ropes here and we saw back in the World T20 back in 2007 that the ropes are clearable. When Yuvraj walloped Stuart Broad for 6 6’s in an over here there were 17 6’s in that match and 20 6’s in the semi final between India and Australia so these two can deliver 10 between them.
